Dragonfire Habits Guide: What Should You Upgrade?
Start with an unlocked Habit on a dragon that has a clear job in an army you use. Check what the next level changes, whether its conditions are met and what else the resources could improve. There is no verified universal Habit upgrade order for every roster.
Where Habit materials come from
Official map guidance identifies Wild Dragon encounters as a main Breedmark source. Each Wild Dragon breed supplies its corresponding Breedmark and has a breed weakness. Hunting spends Resolve, which replenishes with time.
The official dragon guide also lists rewards, offers and chests as sources of Breedmarks and Rarity Cores. Choose the breed and rarity required by your intended Habit; do not assume a hunt provides every material you need. No fixed drop rate, reward quantity or cheapest farming route is established here.
Worked upgrade: Venator's Dragon's Might
Suppose Venator is already in your Physical-damage army, is at least 4★ and has Dragon's Might at Habit level 1. The reviewed level table raises its self-only non-Basic Physical damage bonus from 12.5% to 15% at level 2: a 2.5 percentage-point change to that bonus.
This does not mean the whole army deals 2.5% or 20% more damage. Basic Attacks are outside the stated benefit, and the complete combat result depends on other effects. The upgrade strengthens a role Venator already fills; it does not add healing, protect an ally or change troop affinity.
It is worth comparing when Venator supplies meaningful Physical pressure, for example beside Vhagar in the Shieldbearer example. It has less immediate value if Venator is benched or if the army's pressing problem is survival. The numbers come from reviewed community data, not a resource-efficiency calculation. Compare the next step in the Pro Habit Recommender using your saved levels.
Separate the unlock from the upgrade
Star Rank opens Habits; Habit progression is a separate decision. The official glossary identifies Breedmarks and Rarity Cores as Habit upgrade materials. Before spending, inspect the Habit on your own account: is it available, what level is it now, and what does the next level actually change?
Official support confirms that Habit upgrades require both materials: Breedmarks match the dragon's Breed, and Rarity Cores match its rarity. Upgraded Habits persist into the next reign.
Do not treat a locked ability as an immediate contribution. Wyrmwise's reviewed rules activate a Habit only when the dragon meets its Star requirement and the recorded Habit is learned. Accurate current levels matter more than an assumed fully upgraded profile.
The Star-rank guide explains why a new unlock can change which allies make sense. An increase to an existing Habit may instead strengthen a role the dragon already fills.
Follow the benefit into an actual army
Identify the dragon's job and the Habit's beneficiary. A support upgrade deserves closer inspection when it helps an ally you rely on. It needs a different justification if the intended recipient is absent or the provider stays out of your current armies.
Tessarion offers two distinct checks. Blazing Leader supports an ally's Fire damage with a left-flank preference; Molten Armor includes conditional protection for the other allies against Physical damage. Both effects are described in the official Tessarion guide. Their value depends on different parts of the formation and battle, so the descriptions alone cannot establish which to upgrade first.
Ask whether a stronger effect fixes a weakness or merely adds more of something already sufficient. This is practical reasoning, not a measured resource-efficiency score.
Inspect the exact next-level change
- Read the current and next-level descriptions in game.
- Identify what changes: an effect amount, activation chance or another stated property.
- Keep unchanged restrictions attached to the upgrade: recipient, troop condition, timing and unlock.
- Check the upgrade cost against your other available choices.
- Ask whether the improvement still matters in the complete set of armies you intend to field.
Wyrmwise has reviewed level curves for selected Habit effects from Dragonfire Lab version 0.23.5. That does not establish a generic multiplier for every Habit, and a multiplier in the optimiser is not a percentage increase in your whole army's damage.
Do not assume differently named buffs stack additively. Where stacking or scaling is unresolved, a confident “upgrade this first” recommendation would go beyond the evidence.
Some effects deliberately remain uncertain
The reviewed source contains conflicting values for Tairax's Gift of Fire and Feskar's Resilient Bond. Wyrmwise excludes those disputed effects from scoring. Rhysarion's Ebbing Fury is credited only for its separately reviewed Recovery clause; its disputed Damage Dealt reduction is excluded.
An exclusion does not prove that an ability has no value in game. It means Wyrmwise cannot safely claim a precise benefit from that clause. Do not build an upgrade ranking from numbers the evidence review has already rejected.
If a newer in-game description resolves a conflict, send it for review. Until then, compare decisions using the parts that can be supported and keep the missing information visible.
What Wyrmwise can tell you today
Wyrmwise uses supported existing Habits when evaluating your confirmed roster. Pro adds deeper formation explanations and analysis across up to five armies, which can help you understand where a dragon contributes.
Personalised Habit focus is available in Wyrmwise Pro. The Habit Recommender shows up to three supported next upgrades per rarity, using your recorded levels. It does not establish a universal resource-spend order or guarantee a combat improvement.
For now, use a concrete question: “Which important army would this upgrade help, and why?” If you cannot answer it, inspect the formation and its alternatives before committing resources.
