Dragonfire Beginner Guide: What to Do First
Start by recording the dragons you actually own, then build one usable army before spreading upgrades across the roster. Match troop affinity, distinguish persistent Stars from Reign Levels, and only invest in an upgrade when you can explain which formation it improves.
Campaign Goal rewards and Stage rewards have different deadlines
For Faction and Personal Campaign Goal rewards, reach Stronghold Tier 10 before the Reign ends. Eligible rewards arrive in your mail at the start of the next Campaign. Stage rewards follow a separate instruction: claim them before the current Campaign finishes.
These are the requirements in the official Campaign guide. Do not interpret the Stage claiming deadline as the delivery date for Campaign Goal rewards. Check both reward screens when preparing for a transition.
1. Record the roster you have now
Do not begin with a list of dragons you hope to own. Record each dragon you have, its Star Rank and learned Habit levels. This keeps today's formation separate from a future target.
The official glossary treats Stars and Levels as different progression systems. Stars open Habits and persist; Reign Levels are temporary campaign progression. Mixing the two leads to advice built on abilities that may not yet be active.
2. Build one useful army before five unfinished ones
Give the trio clear jobs: a source of damage, useful protection or recovery, and support or control that the other dragons can actually use. This is a checklist, not a rule that every formation needs exactly one dragon of each type.
Then choose troops. Positive affinity and enemy troop counters are related decisions but they are not the same thing. The troop affinity guide explains the distinction without inventing a numerical bonus.
3. Read left, Vanguard and right as different jobs
Do not automatically put the largest power number in the centre. Read who receives each effect and whether it requires Vanguard. Some reviewed support prefers a flank; some protection reaches only a particular side.
Three dragons have six arrangements. Compare them before spending resources or replacing a dragon. Use the placement guide for the full process.
4. Upgrade with a reason
Before using scarce materials, finish this sentence: “This upgrade helps Army 1 because…” A clear answer might identify a newly active Habit, a stronger support link or a dragon you already field. “It is high tier” is not enough.
Avoid spreading resources across every dragon merely to make the roster look even. Concentration can make a working core sooner, but do not lock yourself into an expensive plan before checking what the next unlock changes.
5. Recheck after meaningful changes
Rebuild when you unlock a dragon, reach a relevant Star or Habit threshold, or learn that a mechanic changed. Small power movements do not always justify reshuffling every army.
For a developing account, continue with the F2P and low-Star guide. It focuses on formations you can field now rather than copied endgame trios.
